About the clinic

The Department of Urology, University of Bern is located in the Anna Seiler-House of the "Inselspital". The Clinic was founded in 1941 by Professor Wildbolz. Under the direction by Professor Urs E. Studer and today by Professor George N. Thalmann the Department of Urology has gained worldwide recognition through its continued intensive clinical activity and research. 

The clinic has 45 beds (including the day care clinic) and the largest stone-treatment center in Switzerland. In the outpatient clinic comprehensive and modern treatment is given to urological patients from all over the world. In addition to conventional urological treatment, we offer a multitude of specialized treatment options such as extracorporeal shockwave lithotrypsy, minimal invasive endoscopic surgery, minimal invasive prostate treatment, complex urodynamic evaluation and extensive reconstructive surgery for all urological disorders. Approximately 2000 patients  (including day care clinic)receive inpatient treatment every year with an additional 500 day care patients. Approximately 10000 patients are evaluated and treated yearly at our outpatient clinic.

As an academic institution our Department is very actively involved in teaching and research as well as developing and evaluating new treatment options for you.
